Man of the Match: Malsawma Chhangte (Aizawl FC)
Aizawl FC had changed their formation from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3, rotating their starting line-up. Johny Lalfakzuala came back from an injury and Thomas Lalengkima was also included in the first eleven. Left Wing Back Ricky Lallawmawma was pushed up to play in midfield while Immanuel H.S. Lalthazuala who played in the right back in the previous match was playing on the left side. Captain B. Malsawmzuala (Sawmtea) warmed the bench in this match.
Luangmual FC had used the same formation from the previous match but they too had made some rotation in their line-up. Lalbiaktluanga and Lalfelpuia were in the first eleven while Laldinliana Varte made his debut in the MPL when he came on for F. Lalmuansanga (Puitea).
The two teams started the match with a positive mentality and Aizawl FC had a good chance right from the start. Midfielder Francis Zonuntluanga had a good sight on goal but Luangmual FC goalkeeper Saitluanga did his job superbly.
Luangmual FC had their first real chance at 23 minutes when after a series of good passing move Lalmuankima's shot on goal bounced back right at Dina Varte who had time to control and score the opening goal. He had justified his Coach Vanlalrova's decision to play him in the first eleven by this goal.
Luagmual FC had another chance but Bt-a failed to convert it into a goal. The two teams had a number of half chances in the first half. Aizawl FC had more possession of the ball but a clear chance hardly came by. Brandon was replaced by Albert Zohmingmawia who came back from injury after a long time. The introduction of Albert created some spark into the game but Aizawl FC failed to create any other chances in the first half.
Aizawl FC continued to dominate the game in the second half and Albert continued to shine in the second half. The goal finally arrived at 59 mintes when left winger Lalrammawia's perfect cross was headed into the goal by an unmarked Michael.
Aizawl FC were not satisfied with level-pegging and they introduced Sawmtea and Lalthanpuia (Papuia) but they did not make much of an impact as they would have like to . Luangmual FC strengthened their midfield by introducing Lalruatdika.
By the end of the 90 minutes Luangmual FC midfielder BT-a had the chance to take a shot from just outside the box but Aizawl FC players stole the ball from him and this led to a very dangerous counter attack but Albert's pass was not good enough. Aizawl FC were presented another chance when Ruatthara failed to clear but they failed to utilise this opportunity too.
When the match was about to end in a draw, Lalruatdika's opportunistic strike changed the whole complexion of the game. He scored a wonderful volley when he hit a first time shot from Aizawl FC Ricky's clearance which gave the Goalkeeper MS-a no chance at all. The wonder goal gave Luangmual FC their first win in the MPL. It was 2-1 at the end of 90 minutes.
